ZHENG NONG
"Chemical Landscapes"
《化学风景》
Solo Photography Exhibition:

Exhibition Dates: July 7 - Aug 17, 2007
Opening Reception: Saturday July 7, 5 - 7 pm

m97 Gallery is pleased to present “Chemical Landscape”, a solo photography exhibition by Beijing-based photographer Zheng Nong. “Chemical Landscape” is an experimental body of color photographs in which the artist has encountered virtual landscapes within the chemical reaction of exposing color film directly to light.

In “Chemical Landscape,” the artist has broken the boundaries of the familiar viewfinder and experimented with a freer and more unconventional realm of the film plane. These lush, futuristic landscapes enrapture the viewer with exploding fiery sunsets and invigorating yellow skyscapes. At first, Zheng Nong’s work seems to be a form of photography we have not seen before, a photography our eyes are not familiar with. “Chemical Landscape” technically and aesthetically presents us with a pure, almost zen-like form of photography resulting from the natural act of unconstricted sunlight striking film, no shutter speeds, no digital cameras clicking, just the pure, primitive reaction of light on film … an alchemic explosion creating a world of virtual landscapes.
