ARTISTS >  ZHANG Dali | 张大力

Zhang Dali is also an urban interventionist with his Dialogue campaign. Begun at the height of hutong (traditional courtyard homes and alleys) demolition in Beijing, the artist spray-painted an unadorned, anonymous head on every corner and nook of the city as a rebuttal to a voiceless city in transition. Often found on buildings demarked for demolition or already in the process of demolition, the heads surface like voices of protest, disenchantment, and of memories released from these edifices.
