5.The Real Toy Story
真实的玩具总动员

Originally conceived and produced as a large-scale installation featuring photographs of workers in toy factories in southern China surrounded by some 20,000 plastic toys. Each and every toy was collected by the artist from second-hand shops and flea markets across the United States with two prerequisites: the toys had to have a face and had to be made in China. The original installation has been exhibited in various international museums, and is being exhibited for the first time at m97 Gallery as 6-panel recreation of the original installation.

The Real Toy Story at once reveals the human presence behind mass-produced goods, and evokes the sensation of density that is endemic to urban areas of southern China. Wolf captures the contrast of the innocent plasticity of the toys with the rich individuality of the factory workers who hand-produce them.
