Li Wei’s work also positions itself at the cross section of action and document. Using construction cranes and acrobatic choreography the artist himself becomes the main character in a vertiginous drama that is equal parts angelical and equal parts action-flick. Often staged amongst the rapid urbanization of China, Li Wei’s work both describes and transcends the anxiety laden surreality of the post-911 world.
